Opequon Creek Project Team

Tree Planting Beside Mill Creek

Thanks to the generosity of the Freeman Foundation, the Project Team was able to purchase 212 shrubs and trees, riparian buffer seed mix, tubes, and stakes for a riparian buffer planting at the Conley Farm (Mountain View) in Gerrardstown, West Virgnia.  On October 16, several members prepared the area by tilling and augering holes for the trees.  Peter Palmer returned with his bobcat on October 20 and augered the remaining holes.  On October 23, Gary and Diane Sylvester drove their horse trailer to Clear Ridge Nursery in Uniontown, MD to pick up the shrubs and trees.  With the forecast for rain on the 25th, members got a jump start and planted 150 trees on the 24th.  The meterologists were correct and we finished planting, tubing, and mulching in the deluge on the 25th.
